I'm sure most people love all the limit breaks, overdrives. quickenings, etc, in all the Final Fantasy games and Eleven had weaponskills which of course was one of my favorite parts cause i was a huge melee person.

Although weaponskills were great I thought they lacked versatility because most jobs had only one good weaponskill. Even melee jobs who wanted to use other weapons didn't because lack of good weaponskills.

I hope they bring something close to weaponskills back in Final Fantasy XIV and hope they make it balanced so all weapons can be used as, regardless of class, so theres more originality to what weaponskill is used.

Since the game is said to be heavily based on a weapon system, I think its safe to say that weapon skills will be well implemented this time around. It was even stated by SE that one day you'll use a certain weapon and the next day another depending on the way you want your character to grow.
