I was wondering, since Square Enix aren't the most creative... they could be falling back on a job leveling system like Final Fantasy Tactics (the PS one), where you get job points for defeating monsters and then you buy specific skills or abilities in that job with the points. The system also allows you to have a first main job command (such as White Magic) and a second job command line (like summoning or ninjutsu).
In addition to these job commands you can also get reactive traits from any job as well as special defensive skills and movement skill from any other job. The combos you can make with this system are wonderful and allow characters to be completely customizable. Final Fantasy Tactics also had levels though, but they only gave you more HP and MP and increases fighting stats by a very small amount.
Perhaps they will allow jobs to have HP up and MP up along with STR up and DEX up... stuff like that. Anyway, this is completely a "what if" type of design that worked well in the past. Again, I don't see them doing anything revolutionary with the game so far.
Typical "servers", "PvP", and all the other stuff that generic MMO's have. They need something special to set them apart or FF 14 will die off after a year or two. Making it only PS3 will limit them, but I'm sure they will make a computer version for windows soon enough. (I just hope they have the understanding that English speaking markets are very large for MMO's and will try hard to get the American and European versions out a lot sooner than they did with FF11)
