It has been cited many times that weapons will play an important part in the battle system of Final Fantasy 14. They will have a "heavy influence" on your character and his or her growth. The right weapon for the right battle will vary, according to the development team, and strategically choosing the correct weapon will make fights much easier, as will choosing the incorrect one make fights much harder.

We have been told to look closely at the official logo for clues as to how the battle system will work. The "wheel" of adventurers wielding different weapons is apparently the clue to unlocking the specifics of the battle system.
