PlayOnline
The PlayOnline service, which has been used since the release of Final Fantasy XI to oversee the managing of and logging into Final Fantasy XI, will not be used for
Final Fantasy 14. The development team confirmed that they will be using an original system to manage accounts on
Final Fantasy XIV.
PlayOnline was originally created with the mindset of having multiple types of content being managed in a single programme. With e-mail, instant messaging, Tetramaster and Final Fantasy XI all in one subscription, they felt the need to produce a client that could handle it. As these additional services have become more obsolete over the years, they feel that there is no longer a need for PlayOnline.
It's also been confirmed that users will still be able to play with each other on the same servers, such as the way world passes used to work in Final Fantasy XI's past, prior to their disbandment with the introduction of the world transfer service back in 2007. Players will also be able to sign into the new software on any platform with zero implications.
