As soon as Final Fantasy 14 was announced, the community errupted over the future of Final Fantasy XI. Players had every right to be concerned about the level of progression they've made during their adventures in Vana'diel and, more so, the friendships they stood to lose with many players jumping abord the new game's ship as it left port.

Fortunately, the developers disbanded rumours that the development of Final Fantasy XI would cease post-Final Fantasy XIV release. The developers assure players they still have at least a year's worth of gameplay to develop and that "If fans continue to support the game, then so will Square Enix.".
