At first, due to the similarities in most of the media published, fans speculated that Final Fantasy XIV might be a sequel to Final Fantasy XI. Since then, in the emerging development team interviews and press conferences, Square Enix have confirmed that the two games are not linked.

Whilst similar races will be used in Final Fantasy 14, it will not be an option to directly transfer current characters to the newer game.

Producer Hiromichi Tanaka said "The game is completely different. There won't be any way to take your character from Final Fantasy XI to Final Fantasy XIV".

Whilst it's true we won't be able to transfer characters and that the storylines are not related in any sense, there are some similarities. For one, the same development team will be working on Fourteen as were working on Eleven. Back to List
