Level Up System

Final Fantasy XIV Level Up System
Level up System:
Unlike the previous Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy XIV will not be using an experience based levelling system. It's unknown exactly what system they're going to use, though.
As outlined in our recent What we Know about Final Fantasy XIV write up, the battle system and levelling system will differ to the previous Final Fantasy games and MMORPGs altogether. Read on for information about the level up system, and visit our Final Fantasy XIV Battle System page for information and speculation on the battle system.

The Level up System

Final Fantasy XIV will not use an experienced based levelling system. Although it's unknown exactly what system they will be implementing, it's known that it won't be similar to Final Fantasy XI's "gain experience, gain levels, learn skills" approach. Whether or not spells will be restricted by levels is currently unknown also, but it'd make sense that a new character couldn't access the best abilities in the game.

This leaves room for speculations as to which sort of levelling system they'll use. Joshua Payne, a viewer of our site, recently mailed us to share his theory with us:

I think the levelling system might be similar to what we experienced in Oblivion. Instead of outright gaining experience and levelling up, characters will have "focus" skills that vary in specialisation per job. When these skills are raised, the oppurtunity for level up increases, until a character obtains enough experience in their focus skills to earn a level up.

Whilst this might be far off the mark, it'd be a unique twist to an MMO; one currently untried by any MMORPG. As to which specific level up system they plan to use, nobody can honestly say. Do you have an idea what system they might use for level up? If so, please send it to us at our usual address: admin@thefinalfantasy14.com and we'll add it to our site.
